4. Telephone Calls and Text Messages
Urban Society Salon books appointments by telephone and text message rather than through an online booking system. This section explains how we treat those communications.
4.1 Booking and Service Messages
When you call or text us, we use your telephone number to respond, to discuss the service you want, and to schedule and confirm your appointment. This is the reason you contacted us, and we treat your number as given to us for that purpose.
4.2 Promotional Messages
We will not send you marketing or promotional text messages unless you have separately agreed to receive them. Agreeing to receive promotional messages is never a condition of booking an appointment or receiving any service.
4.3 Opting Out
You may stop receiving text messages from us at any time by replying STOP to any message, or by telling us by phone, by text, or in person. We will honor that request promptly. You may still receive messages that relate directly to an appointment you have already scheduled unless you ask us to stop those as well.
4.4 Message Rates
Message and data rates may apply to any text message you send to or receive from us, depending on your mobile carrier and plan. We do not charge for text messages.
5. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We do not trade, rent, or exchange your personal information for money or for anything of value.
We share personal information only in the following circumstances:
-
Service providers. We use third party companies to operate our business, including our website host, our payment processor, and our scheduling and communications tools. These providers may access your information only as needed to perform services for us.
-
Legal requirements. We may disclose information if we are required to do so by law, subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
-

6.1 We Ask First
We do not photograph you or your hair without asking. If we would like to take a photograph, we will ask you, and you may decline. Declining will never affect the service you receive or how you are treated.
6.2 Written Consent for Public Use
We will not publish, post, or display a photograph that shows your face, or that otherwise identifies you, on our website, our social media accounts, or any advertising or promotional material without your prior written consent. Written consent means a signed photo release, not a verbal agreement.
6.3 What a Release Covers
When you sign a photo release, it will describe where the photograph may appear, how long we may use it, and whether your first name may accompany it. We will not use your photograph outside the scope of what you agreed to.
6.4 Withdrawing Consent
You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us. Upon your request, we will remove the photograph from our website and from any social media account we control, and we will stop using it in future materials. Please understand that we cannot recall printed materials already distributed, and we cannot control copies that others may have already saved or shared.
6.5 Photographs You Take
Out of respect for other clients and our staff, we ask that you not photograph or record other people in the salon without their permission.
7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Our website uses cookies, which are small text files placed on your device. Cookies allow the website to function correctly, remember your preferences, and help us understand how visitors use the site.
Our website is hosted on Wix. Wix sets cookies that are necessary for the website to function properly, and may set additional cookies that help us understand how visitors find and use our site. We may also use analytics tools to measure website traffic and performance. We do not use your browsing information to build advertising profiles about you, and we do not allow third parties to collect information through our website for their own advertising purposes.
Most web browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you disable cookies, portions of our website may not function properly.
We do not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals, because no common standard for responding to them has been adopted.
8. Third Party Websites and Social Media
Our website contains links to third party sites and services, including Instagram, Facebook, and Google. When you follow a link or interact with us on those platforms, your information is governed by that platform's own privacy policy, not by this one. We do not control those platforms and are not responsible for their practices. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.
Reviews you post publicly about Urban Society Salon on Google, Facebook, or Instagram are public. We may display those public reviews on our website.
9. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure. Our website is served over an encrypted connection, and access to client records is limited to staff who need it to do their jobs.
No method of transmission over the internet and no method of electronic storage is completely secure. While we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. You send information to us at your own risk.
10. Data Retention
We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or as long as required by law. Service and color formulation records are generally kept for as long as you remain a client and for a reasonable period afterward, so that we can serve you well if you return. Contact form submissions and text message threads are kept for a reasonable period for customer service purposes. You may ask us to delete your information as described in Section 11.
11. Your Choices and Your Rights
11.1 Choices Available to Everyone Regardless of where you live, you may:
-
Ask us what information we have about you.
-
Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate.
-
Ask us to delete your information, subject to any records we are required to keep.
-
Withdraw consent for the use of your photograph, as described in Section 6.
-
Opt out of promotional text messages or emails at any time.
To make any of these requests, contact us using the information in Section 15. We will respond without undue delay, and in any event within forty five days. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, so that we do not disclose your information to someone else.
11.2 Indiana Residents
The Indiana Consumer Data Protection Act, which took effect January 1, 2026, gives Indiana residents rights over their personal data. That law applies only to businesses that meet certain size thresholds, and Urban Society Salon does not meet those thresholds. We are therefore not legally required to comply with it.
Even so, we choose to honor the rights described in Section 11.1 for every client, because we believe you should have control over your own information regardless of what the law requires of a business our size.
11.3 Residents of Other States
If you live in a state with its own privacy law, you may have additional rights. Contact us and we will work with you in good faith to honor them.
12. Children's Privacy
Our website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from children under the age of thirteen.
We do provide haircuts for children. When we serve a minor, we collect only the information needed to provide the service, and we deal with the parent or guardian who brings the child in. We will not photograph a minor, and we will never publish a photograph of a minor, without the written consent of that child's parent or legal guardian.
If you believe a child under thirteen has provided personal information to us through our website, please contact us and we will delete it.
13. Notice of a Data Breach
If we discover a security breach that compromises your unencrypted personal information, we will notify you without unreasonable delay, and will notify the Indiana Attorney General where required, consistent with Indiana Code Section 24-4.9.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. If we make a material change to how we handle your information, we will provide more prominent notice. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
